It’s not we who come into the world, but the world that comes to us. To be born is the same as to be given the whole world as a gift.
‘This is eternity’, she sighted.
‘Or heaven’, said the angel Ariel. ‘Or the firmament.’
‘Or the universe’, continued Cecilia.
‘Or the cosmos’, said Ariel, and they were both on the brink of laughter.
‘Or space!’
‘Or the salt of earth!’
‘Or reality!’
‘Or simply the world!’
‘Or The Great Mystery!’ Exclaimed Cecilia finally.
Ariel nodded solemnly. ‘An orphan child has many names.’
